Ornithological survey and evaluation
We can offer considerable expertise in bird survey and assessment for development projects and are also able to provide advice on bird conservation issues, survey methodology and analysis of data. During 1996-2003 John Norton worked on the proposed Dibden Bay container terminal in Southampton Water for Ecological Planning and Research (Winchester), which was eventually rejected after a Public Inquiry. During that time he coordinated ornithological surveys over the Southampton Water area, analysed and modelled waterfowl data and wrote all the bird-related technical reports submitted at the inquiry. We are currently carrying out surveys for a proposed wind-farm development in England and are undertaking bird monitoring in Langstone Harbour, Hampshire.
RECENT WORK AND SERVICES PROVIDED:
• Breeding bird surveys using Common Bird Census or other standard methodologies • Wintering waterfowl surveys and monitoring • Wind-farm bird surveys • Analysis and evaluation of Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) data • Appropriate Assessment under the UK Habitats Regulations in relation to ornithological sites • Checking of bird nesting habitat prior to site clearance work.
